Greg Lukianoff: Free Speech Under Fire

Spotlight Santa Barbara presents New York Times best-selling author, lawyer, and free speech advocate Greg Lukianoff, CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). Lukianoff has co-authored The Coddling of the American Mind (with Jonathan Haidt), The Canceling of the American Mind (with Rikki Schlott), and most recently The War On Words: 10 Arguments Against Free Speech (with Nadine Strossen). He has appeared on CNN, Fox News, CBS News, The Today Show, and HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. With antisemitism on the rise and ICE protests proliferating, Lukianoff will discuss the contours of free speech today, including James Comey's indictment, Jimmy Kimmel's FCC battles, ICE marches, on-campus protests, and Tessa Veksler's lawsuit alleging antisemitism against UCSB. Topics include: the rise of Call Out Culture and Mob Censorship, the dangers of Safetyism and Paranoid Parenting, when protected Speech crosses the line, and Trump's law firm crackdown. The event begins with 6 PM drinks & conversation on the Esplanade, followed by the 7 PM lecture. This event is a rental, not a Lobero presentation.
