August Global Design Series: Take This as a Sign! How Typography Shapes Architecture

AIA Santa Barbara Chapter House · presented by AIA Santa Barbara

In this talk, Andrew invites architects to consider typography as an essential design element—not simply as text, but as a visual language that shapes identity, communicates intent, and influences how people experience a place. He explores how architects can use typography more intentionally, from firm branding and presentations to project signage, environmental graphics, and the details that bring architecture to life. Andrew Thill is an award-winning multidisciplinary designer, artist, and founder of Thill Creative. Over the course of his career, Andrew has created visual identities and graphic design solutions for a diverse range of organizations and creative professionals. He has also collaborated with several local architects to develop their visual identities and brand communications. His creative practice has been shaped by experience with Pentagram and Magnum Photos. His branding work has received international recognition through its inclusion in LogoLounge Book 15, and his fine art has been exhibited and sold at Sullivan Goss.
